Is there anywhere for coarse river fishing. I used to live in the Cotswolds and had access to many rivers for grayling, roach and other native species via way of local clubs and syndicates.

I moved down to the Devon / Cornwall border expecting to be able to river fish both from the bank and in the rivers only to find all the rivers are restricted to game fishermen? I am very disappointed and am still searching for somewhere where I can coarse fish moving water. Thank you for your interest.

Thanks for your enquiry on this and can imagine your situation. Unfortunately most of our rivers aren’t all that suitable for coarse fish species due to there fast flowing and spatey nature, as a result salmonids (trout and salmon) tend to dominate.

However, there is some coarse fishing available most of which is on the lower Exe and river Culm. We have a beat on the Culm on our Passport scheme, details here – http://westcountryangling.com/project/champerhaies-beat-3/, with chub, dace and I’m told a pike or two. Exeter Angling Association also have fishing on the Culm and the Exe, further information here – http://www.exeteranglingassociation.co.uk/.

Hope this helps and please let us know how you get on. WRT
