james scottow Beat Duchy Dartmoor Fishery DATE 2019-07-30 [box]NumberofTrout 3 LargestinInches 7 Return As above, below Prince Hall. All caught on barbless hooks, all returned unharmed.[/box] Tim Houghton Beat Fished: Duchy Fishery Dartmoor 06/07/2019 [box] West Dart. Few fish rising in pools. No sea trout showing in pools below Hexworthy. [/box] Richard Keast Beat Fished: 36: Tregeagle 02/07/2019 [box] 6 trout to 8 inches. Quick evening session, fishing was good despite a downstream wind making casting a bit tricky. Spotted a decent sea trout in one of the pools, and plenty of fish rising. [/box] Richard Keast Beat Fished: 35: Grogarth 30/06/2019 [box] 20 trout to 9 inches. Fished 10am to 2pm. Loads of fish seen in addition to those caught. All fish caught on dry flies, klinkhammer special and sparkle dun, sizes 12 and 14. [/box] terry marsh Beat Fished: Duchy Fishery Dartmoor 02/06/2019 [box] Fantastic location sadly no Trout… [/box] Steve Donaldson Beat Fished: Duchy Fishery Dartmoor 06/06/2019 [box] 20 trout to 12 inchesDay 5, Blackabrook. Loved this beat especially the big boulder pools and runs although older anglers might find wading difficult. Fish were rock hard in the flats but willing again in the lively water.Rain stopped play for the remainder of my week, but I’d finished with 95 in five outings so cannot speak too highly of the Duchy waters. I will be back again next year!! Thanks [/box] Steve Donaldson Beat Fished: Duchy Fishery Dartmoor 05/06/2019 [box] 12 trout to 11 inches. Day 4, W Dart from Two Bridges. A better stamp of fish here. Shared the beat with a friend, 25 between us. [/box] Steve Donaldson Beat Fished: Duchy Fishery Dartmoor 04/06/2019 [box] 31 trout to 9 inches. Day 3 Bellever forest. Lots of mainly small fish that rose enthusiastically to almost anything presented nicely. 31 in a day … great fun! [/box] Steve Donaldson Beat Fished: Duchy Fishery Dartmoor 03/06/2019 [box] 24 trout to 12 inches. Day 2 Cherry Brook, below middle bridge. Lovely water lower on the beat. Plenty of fish rising readily to Griffiths gnats. Beware of bogs when walking down! [/box] Steve Donaldson Beat Fished: Duchy Fishery Dartmoor 02/06/2019 [box] 8 trout to 7 inches. Fished only the afternoon at Postbridge, start of a week ticket. [/box] Roland James Beat Fished: Duchy Fishery Dartmoor 03/06/2019 [box] 1 trout to 4 inches [/box] Roland James Beat Fished: 22: Ham Mill 01/06/2019 [box] 4 trout to 5 inches [/box] Peter Olesen Beat Fished: Duchy Fishery Dartmoor 06/06/2019 [box] “4 trout to 8 inches. West Dart below 2 Bridges. Lovely day, water low, recent rain made no difference. ” [/box] Nigel Olesen Beat Fished: Duchy Fishery Dartmoor 06/06/2019 [box] “3 trout to 6 inches. Low water below 2 bridges, good fun with dry fly. One challenging rotten barb wire fence to cross couple of fields down on Left bank! Heard cuckoos as well.” [/box] edward Beat Fished: Duchy Fishery Dartmoor 31/05/2019 [box] 2 trout to 7 inches [/box] Jem Hovil Beat Fished: Duchy Fishery Dartmoor 28/05/2019 [box] 3 trout to 10 inches. Fished on and off over a few days in different spots with my son. Hard fishing due to water levels, but lots of fish around and takes when not spooked. [/box] patrick murphy Beat Fished: 22: Ham Mill 31/05/2019 [box] “4 trout to 10 inches. low water, hot, mayfly starting to hatch but only small numbers. Broken by one fish, missed many others Caught on upstream nymphs and downstream coachman” [/box] Mark Gladwin Beat Fished: Duchy Fishery Dartmoor 31/05/2019 [box] East Dart at Bellever, great fun but no fish caught. [/box] John Smithson Beat Fished: Duchy Fishery Dartmoor 25/05/2019 [box] 1 trout to 8 inches. Blackbrook River. Tricky conditions: very low water level and gusty downstream breeze made presentation of dry fly difficult with 3wt rod. Plenty of large olives hatching, but no rises to my Para Adams which looked a good imitation. Switching to a tiny Griffiths Black Gnat provoked more interest. Intense midge hatch late in afternoon. The river bed is very slimy and the whole system needs a good flush. [/box] Robert Mckenzie Beat Fished: 23: Treburtle 23/05/2019 [box] 6 trout, one of 13 inches! largest I’ve caught here for a while. Water getting low again but trout still there in deep/fast water. Had a few healthy tugs/splashes. Action so far this season has been encouraging. [/box] Robert Lambourne Beat Fished: Duchy Fishery Dartmoor 15/05/2019 [box] “Fished Wallabrook very difficult to access many sections of the water (little more than a ditch) plus ground between swims hard going and not IMO suitable for less mobile anglers. Waders essential. No fish seen.” [/box] Name:Terry HindleyBeat Fished:Duchy Fishery DartmoorDate Fished:2019-05-21 [box]East dart up river from Postbridge. Water very low and clear. 4 to 8” on a 16 f fly.[/box] Name:Richard KeastBeat Fished:36: TregeagleDate Fished: 2019-05-21 [box]Four trout to 6 inches. Another good evening session after work. Plenty of fish rising to the fly, caught on a black knat pattern and an Adams.[/box] Name:David TomkinsBeat Fished:Duchy Fishery DartmoorDate Fished:2019-05-20 [box]Two trout to 11 inches. Nothing negative. Easy to purchase a ticket. Caught two lovely trout opposite Prince Hall, many more undeceived. Beautiful area, cuckoos about. One issue unrelated to today that may be of interest : i once caught a salmon smolt in Venford reservoir, one of many seen. The only logical explanation for their presence was the probable migration down the supplementary feed pipe taken from the Swincome stream. A note to the E.A perhaps ?[/box] Name:Tony PeacockBeat Fished:10: Upper Teign FADate Fished: 2019-05-17 [box]One 12 inch trout. Hard days low / clear water fishing but good challenging fun.[/box] Name:Robert MckenzieBeat Fished:23: TreburtleDate Fished: 2019-05-16 [box]Eight trout to 12 inches. Third good visit in a row, fish population seems much healthier this season than last. Slow start, but then some mayflies appeared and trout got interested, most of the action in fast water. There are some good fish lurking here. Splashed/missed a few good fish.[/box] Name:David WinesBeat Fished:9: Rothern BridgeDate Fished: 2019-05-17 [box]Four trout to 14inches. Overall I had a fantastic day fishing this beat and landed my biggest BT which was lurking under Rotheren Bridge. The only small criticism I would make would be the width of access between the five bank and a barb wire fence. It could just do with a strim so you don’t end up tripping on everything. All in all a fantastic beat which I will visit again and again. Please keep up the excellent work providing these opportunities. Many thanks. David[/box] Name:Robert MckenzieBeat Fished:23: TreburtleDate Fished: 2019-03-10 [box]Eight trout to 8 inches. Another good day on this beat, although fish weren’t interested until late afternoon. My grey duster fly soon got things started. Some mayflies appearing, fish not taking them, yet. Looking forward to a good mayfly hatch.[/box] Name:10 trout to 10 inches. Robert MckenzieBeat Fished:23: TreburtleDate Fished: 2019-05-03 [box]Nearly didn’t go but weather improved at midday, best day I’ve had for a while on this beat. Fished till dusk. River in good condition, trout lively, splashed a few/had a few healthy tugs. Trout population seems healthier than last season.[/box] Name:MARK KINGBeat Fished:26: Upper and Lower SydenhamDate Fished:2019-05-06 [box]2 tour to 6 inches and 2 12 inch grayling.[/box] Name:MARK KINGBeat Fished:36: TregeagleDate Fished:2019-05-11 [box]Eight trout to 8inches. Strong down stream wind and bright sun coupled with low clear water so not really ideal conds. Lots of hawthorns in the air but none seen taken. The odd rise but very spooky. Lost a couple of better fish in the weed and two taken on a hare and partridge. Terrain was hard going but enjoyed the afternoon.[/box] Name:C LOCKBeat Fished:Duchy Fishery DartmoorDate Fished: 2019-04-30 [box] I fished the Cherry Brook, this is the second time I have blanked here, people might rave about it but it is not worth the effort. The East Dart at Bellever is more productive and very pretty. PS You need a full set of chest waders on the Cherry Brook, the banks are very boggy in places, ask the two people I met returning to their cars who had gone in over their knees in lovely smelly Dartmoor mud… PPS If however you want to hear a cuckoo then either the East Dart or the Cherry Brook should satisfy you at this time of year.[/box] Name:ROB WESTBeat Fished:Duchy Fishery DartmoorDate Fished: 2019-04-29 [box]Dunnabridge stretch, near steppingstones. Combined effort with brother visiting, fished both sections of beat, weather excellent, river in good condition. Fish stopped feeding around 5 o’clock, had one or two strong tugs and at least two good fish got off the hook. A very good day on this lovely beat.[/box] Name:Robert MckenzieBeat Fished:23: TreburtleDate Fished: 2019-04-03 [box]A blank day, sunshine soon changed to drizzle, went home early.[/box] Name:Henry SleathBeat Fished:Duchy Fishery Dartmoor Date Fished: 2019-04-17 [box]30+ Trout to 13″ (over multiple dayes. I fished the west dart below two bridges on 17th and caught nothing at all. Little evidence of fish moving at all just below two bridges (saw one rising, didn’t see any I had scared). No evidence of fish at hexworthy. On the 18th, I fished the west dart above two bridges. Not much happening for about a km, but then lots of action. I fished it up to just past the weir and caught at least 20 trout up to about 9 inches including one bright silver with black spots (only about 6 inches) which I assume was a smolt. All on dry fly. Today (19th) I fished the cherrybrook from the confluence with the w. Dart to the lower bridge. Again, not much evidence of fish at all – I thought this was the holy grail of Dartmoor! I was super stealthy, but only saw one rising and didn’t see any rushing off scared. I did catch a very good fish (at least 13 inches) in one pool though, so that made up for it. Then fished a bit above the lower bridge and caught lots of tiddlers- good fun. Upper west dart aside, I am curious at the apparent lack of fish in the lower reaches of these streams… perhaps I’m really not as good as I think I am, but I am an experienced river fisherman… could it be that it’s early in the season? I have fishes rivers of similar sizes in north scotland that have been teaming with small trout, although these have been connected to lochs, so are the natural nursery grounds in many cases. I would love to know if others have observed a simar pattern? However, managed to land 4 brown trout all around 8′ on weighted nymphs and missed several takes on a Griffiths gnat dry – probably due to my slow reactions! Looks like some clearance work of Japanese knotweed has been done along a couple of sections on the river bank. [/box] Name:  Tony Harvey Beat Fished:  Tregeagle Date Fished: 26/07/2017 [box] Fished from late morning to early afternoon with water looking low. Made a move to Bellever, knowing no swimmers would be muddling up the river in this weather. Again, fish were in the pools and glides. Netted an 11″ brown; several others missed setting hook [/box] Name:  Paul Cowlishaw Beat Fished:  Cherry Brook Date Fished: 26/06/17 [box] Start of fishing delayed after I came across a cow stuck in a bog.
