Beat 31: Jays
River Carey – River Tamar
Beat 31: Jays – River Carey
SX 363872 – SX 359863 1.6 km of single right hand bank
Brown trout and grayling fishing with occasional sea trout on the lower of the two Carey beats available. This beat is in a lovely wide valley with lots of water for several anglers. Like the other Carey beat it is best suited to a shorter fly rod 7-8ft, 3-4 wt. Again, just out fished by the Boldford Bridge beat in 2017, it is hoped that the Carey beats continue to improve and provide consistently good sport.
Directions & Access:
From Launceston take the A388 to Liftondown. Take the left turn signed Holsworthy. At the next T junction turn left to Holsworthy. Continue straight on and you will drop down a steep hill and cross over the River Carey at Heale Bridge. After the bridge, go through the first gateway on the right. Follow the track round to the right and park between the old railway embankments, making sure you leave room for passing vehicles. The box is on the oak tree to the left.
Info & Restrictions:
Fly only. All trout under 7” must be returned, no more than 2 trout to be retained per day. Please return all sea trout and grayling. Sorry, no dogs.
