Beat 24: Wiggaton

River Ottery – River Tamar

Beat 24: Wiggaton – River Ottery

SX 228917 – SX 236904     1700m Left hand single bank

This beat, like Treburtle downstream, has long provided good brown trout fishing and, at times, good numbers of grayling. Say it quietly but, like the other beats on the Ottery, it too is a cracker! There is a good head of trout around the 10” mark although it produced a monster of 2lb in the past. The beat has a number of deep corner pools and fishy spots and usually benefits from a good mayfly hatch. Easily accessible with a range of runs and pools makes this a popular beat. 75 trout were recorded by anglers in 2017 plus a few grayling.
