Some of you may have already seen this but local man and well travelled international angler, Will Martin, has a fortnightly column in the Western Morning News focused on exploring some of the best wild fishing beats in the region.

The first diary was published in the paper on 23 April and is still available on line if you google ‘Western Morning News Kingfisher Diaries’. It focuses on Will’s early season trip to the Grist Mill beat on the Little Dart; this beat was formerly part of the very popular Essebeare beat that is sadly no longer part of the scheme. On the plus side Grist Mill can be fished for £10/day by calling 01884 860625.

Will’s latest excursion, this time to the Champerhaies beat on the River Culm, was published last Wednesday. Tough fishing in bright and cold conditions but Will did manage to winkle out a fish. The regular fortnightly column will continue over the coming months usually on a Wednesday or Thursday and will cover a range of Passport and other local beats available to the angling public.

It will be interesting to see how Will gets on as the season progresses. Things are gradually warming up and there is a little rain forecast which bodes well so will look forward to the next instalment.
