If you haven’t been fishing yet, now is definitely the time to get out and about – the mayfly have finally started in earnest.

The picture above is one of the many seen at Druxton on the Tamar (beat 19) late yesterday afternoon. By 5pm they had really got going, some were huge and seemed almost as big as the swifts that were also flitting about the place.

The fish were showing all over the place but particularly in the faster runs where the rises were typically explosive as they cashed in on the bonanza. Obviously timing is crucial as the Mays won’t be coming off in numbers all day and in all locations but if the weather stays reasonably settled, now would be a very good time to try and coincide with a hatch. If you do get out, we hope you get lucky!
